PTO Job Descriptions

There are many opportunities for volunteers to get involved with the PTO.  Below lists the different jobs which are needed to help our PTO be successful. Please find the type of job that fits your time and talents the best.

The Technical Support Committee: a.k.a. "The Deek Squad.”
Commitment: 2 hours per week (office hours at the school) plus any additional email support.
This is a group of volunteers who help the teachers and staff by providing supplemental technical support beyond what is offered by the district’s Information Technology IT team. This helps the teachers be able to focus more time on the kids.   We offer weekly on-site Office Hours and an email support line for assistance requests. This group can  also develop training, best practices, and procedures for the staff.  There are opportunities to work on projects (i.e. building grade level websites) and work on emergent problems (i.e. resolving Google print issues). Volunteers who have been involved in the past include entrepreneurs, tech executives, web developers, and folks who just like to play around with technology or programming.  Contact Michelle Hillmeyer at if you are interested.

Examples of projects & support that the Deek Squad has worked on since the committee started in 2013.
- Install, configure, and provide basic training on MimioTeach and MimioVote on teacher laptops
- Set up A/V carts, adjust positioning and configuration to get the best projection for the classroom space
- Set up Google Classroom on teacher’s BVSD account, to allow paperless assignment distribution and submission for the class (“paperless classroom”)
- Set up Google cloud print to students can print to assigned network printers via teacher’s account
- Provide instruction on using Google apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drive, Classroom, Cloudprint)
- Troubleshoot and resolve printer, microphone/speaker, and projector problems
- Troubleshoot Chromebook and teacher laptop problems, resolve issue if possible or refer to BVSD IT help desk
- Troubleshoot individual student and teacher BVSD account problems, resolve when possible or refer to BVSD IT help desk
- Configured individual Google drive automated backups, allowing teachers to have backup copies of all critical files in “the cloud”
- Create grade and teacher level webpages using Google Sites
- Designed and built 3 Chromebook charging storage stations from donated filing cabinets, saving the school over $4000.
- Created electronic visitor and student logs to replace paper sign-in logs in the front office
